Add A/V media track in QuickTimeline not working...?

I am in QuickTimeline and want to import a music file (wav or mp3) right clicking under the tracks and selecting 'import A/V media file' however nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? :(
 
I have inserted a sound file that is 20 seconds long with percussive sound that is designed to presicely sync with a laser burst however its going out of sync in quickshow. If i scrub to the actual time of the percussive sound then its in sync, but when I roll through the entire 20 seconds, it drops sync and the sound is too early! I am working on a museum project which opens tomorrow... :(

Is there any fix for this apart from randomly moving the file around to try and sync it up?
