Hello, I’m in need of some assistance. I need to get/build a new computer for our laser setup and I need to know how much I need to put into it. In my company we currently have 14 different fb4s, 2 standalones, 1 6in1 multi and 6 built in Kvant cm3000. And we need to be able run to all of them together. We are also expanding so the new computer need to be able to handle at least 20 simultaneous projectors.
What is important? Core count, clockspeeds, hd reads, ram size, gpu? What is needed to have big setups?
Since my company does gigs all around town if there is some laptop that does this without emptying the bank it would be preferred. But if not I will just build a custom desktop with the things that are needed.
Thanks ahead!
Kris

Until now I’ve done fine with the laptop I have, even using 9 projectors the gig before last. That time I had some weird delay the last minutes of the gig but everything at least ran smoothly.
Yesterday however, in the same venue, with the same hardware, using only 8 projectors this time, we had to change the computer as soon as the venue opened. This due to the venues schedule not giving us more time to setup so we could catch it before opening. So as soon as the door opened I tried my first que and realized I was in for a hectic evening.
The delay from last event had reappeared, which is weird because I have rebuilt my workspace, and I had no trouble during setup. But nevertheless I had delay. On top of that, I had major performance stutters, I tried displaying the big dotted green curve, from the standard library, same output to all 8 projectors. Some gave no output first while others showed started showing a static output for a blink or two before jumping in the animation, here other projectors started their output but then ones that had an output lost theirs… they were all supposed to display the same exact animation in time, in sync and smoothly. I obviously had to do something because this was not going to work. I stoped everything, assigned only 1 projector and tried again, and stuttering but when adding a second one the lag came back.
This laptop has been used for our shows most of the gigs this year and usually handles 4-6 projectors. It has done 9 in a live setup as i mentioned and it got through it without any major hiccups.
The problems, I think, are with the laptops specs since the computer we brought handled everything fine, using the same settings. I saved projector setting, zone settings and workspace and transferred to the backup pc to make the transfer as fast as possible. After doing a quick check of the outputs of each projector to make sure they were in-fact projecting where they were supposed to I tried the same que as before and all 8 showed the que, in sync, no aperant delay and with a smooth animation.
Of course nothing else was running on the laptop to slow it down and actually on the tower I had several things running in the background and had no performance hit. I know it has more of everything, but it also has a few years on its back.
So for the specs,
Laptop
i7-11390H @ 3.30 GHz
16 GB ram @ 2933 MHz (1466 in hwinfo)
Intel xe graphics
Windows 11
Tower
i7-7820x @ 4.0 GHz (using only standard xmp oc)
32GB ram @ 2666mhz (1333 in hwinfo)
1080ti (no oc)
C-drive Nvme gen 2 3500 MB/s read 1500 MB/s write
(This is my personal pc so there are more drives and few other things in it, but their not relevant to the performance)
Windows 10
So to me it’s no mystery that my tower could handle the load without breaking a sweat, but if it is because of ram, cpu, gpu or maybe just the difference on OS I have no idea.
Anyone else having trouble with performance?
