Cue Creation: Layering Shapes (Beam Wave)

Hello all - very new and learning the basics. Trying to recreate a cue from the youtube video linked below. Thank for your help.

Objective - Create a 2 tone wave with beams separating the colors. '

Problem - In the video, after the initial wave is created, a duplicate wave is created, converted to beam mode, and then added on top of the initial wave. Not sure what I am doing wrong but the option does not come up when I try to repeat the steps in the video. Is this not possible with Beyond Essentials?
