virtual dj plugin

Hi all, total novice at this but how do I get the animations to sync in time with the music coming from virtual dj? I switch vdj to laserbeat but nothing...tapping space bar doesn't work either...the numbers go up but the animation just stays the same speed. if I click vdj it starts running...
