Help...newbie!!!

Hi all, total novice at this but how do I get the animations to sync in time with the music coming from virtual dj? I switch vdj to laserbeat but nothing...tapping space bar doesn't work either...the numbers go up but the animation just stays the same speed. if I click vdj it starts running through all the animations at the speed the bpms are set at. All want is to be able to adjust that wee frog like he does in the video...what am I doing wrong. ta
