Can someone please explain the difference to me:
Option> Make Window Square
Option> ‘1:1 Side Ratio’
For me, each of these commands describes the same result - namely a ‘square’ ERP - or am I wrong?

Dear Client,

As for me, the 1:1 ratio is how the X/Y scale calculated. Make window non square and you will see. The Make window - this is about window dimension. Key word: window. So, one is about window size, second is about proportion / ratio of drawing the on the window.
