problems importing ttf font types in Beyond

Pretty much all the TTF font types that I try to import in Beyond just show up as weird symbols. What is the problem? Why is this happening?
 
BEYOND use Windows API function that return character outline by character code. This is pretty old/classic function, we use it more than 15 years. So, we have what Windows give us back.

Please send screenshot and possibly font to report at pangolin dot com. I need to know where you import, what font, and what you see.

I ended up using an otf to ttf converter online, and it actually works pretty well. Some of the "ttf" fonts that the clients gave me, I guess, just weren't really truetype. So i tried changing the .ttf extension to .otf for the conversion, and worked great. So there it is..
