Running backwards through frames

I am new to beyond. Maybe I am missing something obvious. I want to be able to run forward and backward through frames while controlling the speed live, like scratching on a record. Doing this on a knob on APC-40 would be amazing.
 
I would do a bit of searching about PangoScript. I speculate there should be a way to script something concerning animation speed (I am thinking giving it a negative value to go backwards) and then assign it to your APC knob.
