Using Showtime with digital audio workstation software?

I have been thinking about using my DAW(digital audio workstation) software package (Cakewalk Sonar 7) as the "master" timing & playback device running on one laptop computer, with LD2000 Showtime running on another laptop. If possible, I would like to use the native MIDI clock / time sync capabilities of Sonar, with out having to invest in external SMPTE gear.

Does anyone have any experience using Sonar (or other DAW software package) as a master controller for Showtime, and have any advice / recommendations on implementing this setup?
